En-ROADS and C-ROADS and their support materials and documentation are freely available tools for exploring climate solutions. You’re welcome to use them to create scenarios, lead workshops or public presentations, support your own research, or share insights in publications and online platforms. This FAQ explains how to properly credit Climate Interactive and MIT Sloan when using the simulators and materials and promoting your events. It also covers how you can refer to yourself as a facilitator or En-ROADS Climate Ambassador.

Overview of the simulators, materials, and licenses

  • Both simulators are free-to-use and available online:
  • The online En-ROADS simulator can be used for commercial or non-commercial purposes.
  • We offer ready-to-use support materials and documentation for workshops, games, assignments, presentations, and outreach. These resources are licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License. This license lets you remix, adapt, and build upon Climate Interactive’s work, even commercially, as long as you give appropriate credit for the original creation of the materials.

  • Commercial and non-commercial licenses for the En-ROADS software development kit (SDK) are also available for customized applications. Reach out to support@climateinteractive.org for more information.

Attribution and branding guidelines

When promoting your En-ROADS event (flyers, social media, websites, videos), and at your event itself, please include this credit line (and link to the organizations’ websites: https://www.climateinteractive.org/ and https://mitsloan.mit.edu/):

“En-ROADS is a tool created by Climate Interactive and MIT Sloan.”

If your event features the En-ROADS Climate Solutions Workshop or the Climate Action Simulation game, also include:

“The En-ROADS Climate Solutions workshop was designed by Climate Interactive and MIT Sloan.” or “The Climate Action Simulation was designed by Climate Interactive, MIT Sloan, and the UMass Lowell Climate Change Initiative.”
